I like working with Maxwell Health for several reasons. It really suits my lifestyle as I now travel quite a bit and have family commitments and I can work around these. Working the hours that suit, gives me flexibility without the commitments that go with a permanent Practice situation.
It is also ‘all care and no responsibility’. What I mean by that is that by not being responsible for all the restocking, ordering etc. you can really concentrate on patient care.
You can also be of great help to your fellow nurses by pitching in with tasks they have got behind in, for example, entering new patients classifications, family history, medications, immunizations etc. Check drugs and resuscitation trolley if you have time which is really appreciated – so rewarding.
Their staff are very friendly and helpful and never presume but always ask if you would like to work at various places. I have yet to find a Practice I would not go back too and hopefully of course visa versa.
Great when you walk into a busy Practice and introduce yourself “I’m the Maxwell Locum Nurse” and see the look of relief on the faces. At times in a permenant situation we can feel ‘taken for granted’ and the work load overlooked. In this job no time for that because you ARE needed.
It is also very stimulating and interesting to see how different Practices work, and adapt. Also I find that even after over 40years in General Practice I can still learn new things off my fellow Nurses and Doctors which works both ways as well.
They say “variety is the spice of life” and as I work in the Auckland area have the privilege of this.
